Miss New York now has a new title and a new crown.
Mallory Hagan, a 23-year-old resident of of Park Slope, Brooklyn was crowned Miss America 2013 last night in Las Vegas.
The Alabama native moved to New York at age 18 and studied communications at the Fashion Institute of Technology.
Hagan tap danced to a James Brown song during the pageant and later answered a question about whether armed guards belong in grade schools by saying violence should not be fought with violence.
She is the first Miss New York to be crowned Miss America since Vanessa Williams in 1984 and the first Brooklyn resident to win the title.
