The city's Health and Hospitals Corporation is offering big money to doctors who meet high performance standards.

There will be $59 million dollars paid out in the pay-for-performance program over the next three years.

The plan rewards doctors if they hit targets including lowering readmission rates, delivering more coordinated services, improving communication, reducing emergency room wait times and running more efficient operating rooms.

More than 3,500 doctors employed through contracts with the NYU School of Medicine, Mount Sinai School of Medicine and the Physician Affiliation Group of New York are eligible.

HHC says it hopes to improve patient care, efficiency and satisfaction.
