Mayor Michael Bloomberg signed a bill Monday meant to bolster a business enterprise program and waives fees related to cleaning up from Hurricane Sandy.

The business legislation builds on a law passed in 2005 that significantly increased the amount of minority and women-owned firms certified to pursue contracts in the city.

This law will remove the program's $1 million cap on contracts.

For example it will allow construction firms in the Minority and Women-owned Business Enterprise (MWBE) Program to compete more effectively for higher-valued contracts.

Bloomberg also signed a bill that waived some permit and inspection fees for the demolition and rebuilding of infrastructure damaged by the storm.
