President Barack Obama signed a bill Thursday designed to combat military hazing in the wake of the suicide of a Manhattan solider.

The law will require thorough reports on hazing activity from all departments of the military.

Departments must also detail measures they're taking to reduce the activity.

The 2011 suicide of Private Danny Chen motivated the Organization of Chinese Americans to campaign for reforms to address the culture of military hazing.

"We have to wait and see if whether or not this plan is going to be effective, if the plan is going to be substantive," said Elizabeth OuYang, president of the New York chapter of the Organization of Chinese Americans. "Six months from now, we eagerly wait to see the substance of their plan."

Prosecutors say Chen was driven to suicide after being brutally hazed by other troops.

Five soldiers were sentenced to prison in connection with the case.
