The cable channel created by former Vice President Al Gore, Current TV, is being sold to Al Jazeera.
The company will create a New York-based news channel with a combination of American programming and newscasts from its Qatar headquarters.
After the announcement of the sale, Time Warner Cable announced it had terminated its agreement with Current and pulled it from its lineup.
Time Warner Cable, NY1's parent company, told programmers late last year it would be eliminating low-rated networks to help prevent big jumps in subscriber fees.
