Doctors say they're optimistic Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will make a full recovery after suffering a blood clot in her head.

Clinton remains hospitalized Tuesday as she continues to receive treatment for a blood clot.

Doctors at New York Presbyterian Hospital are monitoring her closely but say she is doing better.

They say the clot is a vein between her brain and skull, behind the right ear.

It did not result in any neurological damage, according to doctors, who added that Clinton is "making excellent progress and we are confident that she will make a full recovery" in a statement.

Family members, including daughter Chelsea, have come to visit Clinton during her stay.

"My brother actually saw Chelsea and her husband walking by where we waiting for news for my mom, and my brother walked up to her and said, 'How's your mom doing?' and she said 'She's doing good,'" said one person at the hospital.

Clinton was admitted to New York Presbyterian Hospital Sunday after the clot was discovered during a follow-up exam for a concussion she suffered after fainting last month.

Doctors say she's being treated with blood thinners and will be released when the proper dose is determined.

Clinton has said she will step down from her cabinet position in January.
