Former Yankee and 2009 World Series MVP Hideki Matsui announced his retirement from baseball Thursday.
The 38-year-old joined the Yankees in 2003 and will always be remembered for his final game in pinstripes.
He homered and knocked in six runs against the Phillies as the Yanks won the 2009 World Series.
Matsui also played for the Angels, A's and Rays.
In a statement, Yankees captain Derek Jeter called Matsui one of his favorite teammates.
