Federal authorities arrested a Bronx woman Thursday that they allege posed as a relative of one of the Newtown school shooting victims as part of a fundraising scam.
Investigators say Nouel Alba, 37, collected donations for what she said was a funeral fund for one of the 20 children killed.
She allegedly reached out to donors using Facebook, phone calls and text messages.
According to the complaint, Alba claimed she didn't know her PayPal account was being used to receive donations and refunded the money days later.
If convicted of lying to investigators, Alba faces five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
Authorities ask anyone with knowledge of fundraising schemes connected to the Newtown tragedy to contact the FBI in Connecticut.
