One family in the Rockaways who feared they were going to lose their home following Hurricane Sandy will now get their home repaired. NY1's Susan Jhun filed the following report.

Raymon Hawson and his disabled mother Lorraine reached out to NY1 For You after fearing their landlord was going to sell the house they've rented for years because he couldn't afford repairs.

The Hawsons' home suffered major damage from Hurricane Sandy and remained without power or heat for more than a month.

When NY1 For You first contacted the landlord, he told us he had no choice but to sell the house. He said FEMA denied him assistance because it's not his primary residence and he didn't qualify for the city's emergency repair program, Rapid Repairs.

After reapplying to the program, NY1 got the landlord to contact the city again. He then said an inspector came out and approved the house for critical repairs.

It's good news for the Hawsons, who don't have to move out. However, it will still be a matter of weeks before Rapid Repairs arrives at their doorstep to provide full relief.
