Some elementary school students in Brooklyn are getting a much-needed gift from hundreds of miles away.

Fifty boxes of school supplies from North Carolina are headed to P.S. 188 in Coney Island, which was badly damaged by Sandy.

Nineteen schools in North Carolina's Cumberland County collected the donations for their "Pay it Forward" campaign.

It's meant to help other students along the east coast who are still recovering from the storm.

"We don't do it for rewards," said Shaun Jones, a high school student. "We do it to see the kids' smiles on their faces and also the adults."

"They are young people who are, hopefully, at some point, we will all retire and they will take over the world," said Natasha Scott, who works in student services for Cumberland County Schools.

A school in New Jersey is also getting supplies.
