A new fitness club in Brooklyn features a rock climbing wall that strengthens the body. NY1's Cheryl Wills filed the following report.

Tomas Anthony makes it all look so easy as he scales the rock climbing wall of his new fitness center in Downtown Brooklyn. He hopes more people will see that it's the ultimate workout.

"It strengthens muscles, uses muscles that help strengthen your shoulders, your back, your legs," he says. "So it's a total body workout in a very short period of time."

Anthony's gym is called "Everyday Athlete", and new moms are especially drawn to the center. Emily Perkowski has two young children. She says the fitness routines are helping her lose baby weight fast.

"We'll be on the wall doing pull-ups, or they'll have bands or TRX off the wall doing presses, so the body is constantly challenged," she says. "There's never a time that I'm not sore, and in a different way. I just feel like I'm stronger than I've ever been before."

Fitness instructors also say rock climbing improves cardiovascular health in a fun way.

"We really use it as a playground," says Stephanie Severe, an instructor at Everyday Athlete. "We use all different apparatus, so you can climb up the wall, you can traverse on the wall. We use a lot of balls, pulleys. We don't have a lot of equipment. We're really using our own body and strength."
