The Coast Guard removed a tanker Tuesday that washed ashore on Staten Island during Hurricane Sandy.

A crew moved the John B. Caddell from where it was sitting on Front Street in Clifton.

They used a crane to lift the 184 foot tanker into the water before doing a float test to check for leaks.

The Coast Guard prepared for the operation for several weeks to ensure it all went off without a hitch.

"Everything has been done quickly, efficiently, safely and, as you can see, everything's going great," Coast Guard Petty Officer Sara Romero said. "Hopefully we'll be able to clean up Staten Island and get it back to normal as soon as possible."

The Caddell will be taken to a marine facility where its damage can be assessed.
