Texas Rep. Michael McCaul has been named to replace Long Island Rep. Peter King as the head of the House Homeland Security Committee.

King is stepping down because of Republican-imposed term limits.

In his seven years at the head of the committee, King is said to have helped keep the city's counter-terrorism funding stable.

McCaul said he wants to focus on cyber-security and hold a review of the Homeland Security Department as a whole.

"With everything that's going on in the world today, these are dangerous times, and I think I'm looking forward to serving," McCaul said.

King will remain a member of the committee.
