A Queens restaurant owner is spreading some Thanksgiving cheer for residents hit by Hurricane Sandy.
Herbert Duarte just got his power back at the Saffron Restaurant and Tapas Bar in Howard Beach, and while he still has a lot of cleanup, it's not stopping him from holding a special Thanksgiving dinner for local residents on Thursday, free of charge.
Duarte said it's all about giving his community some hope.
"This is not about the amount of work we need to do. It is about giving back to the community in times like this," Duarte said. "New York, New Jersey has suffered so much. I live near Rockaway. Howard Beach got hurt really bad. I'm hoping these people got somewhere to go."
Duarte said he'll use the honor system, hoping only the most needy residents will come out.
Saffron Restaurant is located on Cross Bay Boulevard between 161st and 162nd Avenues.
