Rockaway residents got a chance to vent their frustrations with the Hurricane Sandy recovery effort at a meeting Tuesday night. NY1's Ruschell Boone filed the following report.

The crowd was calm, but many of the homeowners at a community meeting Tuesday night were frustrated with the process of putting their property and lives back together.

Vabim Ally said his tenant was able to get federal help faster than he could.

"I have the letter and the paperwork here saying I have to take out a small business loan, where the guy in the back that didn't work, didn't have a job, was given $10,000 within seven days," Ally said.

That wasn't the only complaint. People at the meeting said city and federal agencies need to address a number of inequalities. Some said they lose out on a lot of services because they're not home during the day.

"I'm highly frustrated because I feel the people that's in the projects are being catered to first," said one resident. "People that don't work are being catered to first. Why? Because they are home all day and they are able to reap the benefits of this storm."

State Senator-elect James Sanders held the meeting so those affected by the hurricane could vent their frustration and get information on how to move forward.

"We heard insurance is a problem," Sanders said. "We hear electricians, some of them, are gouging us. We heard to be on the lookout for mold and things of that nature."

Representatives from the Long Island Power Authority were also there to answer questions.

There are thousands of customers still without power. Unlike last week's community meeting in Rockaway Beach, people were more receptive to the power company and what its representatives had to say.
