New York City-born composer Bernard Bierman, whose songs were performed by Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughan, Billy Eckstein and others, died Monday at age 104. Bierman began writing Tin Pan Alley songs in 1947, after serving in the armed forces in World War II.
He retired from music in 1952 to run a family business.
Bierman's musical career was revived in 1986, when Woody Allen's film "Crimes And Misdemeanors" featured the song "Cuban Mambo," which Bierman helped write.
Bierman continued to write, perform and record music past his 100th birthday.
Friends say a memorial service for Bierman will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Gramercy Park Memorial Chapel in Gramercy.
