A soldier that military officials say tried to impede the investigation into the death of Private Danny Chen was dishonorably discharged from the Army Thursday.

Sergeant Travis Carden was found guilty in August for his role in the hazing of the 19-year-old Chen.

The Manhattan soldier killed himself while serving in Afghanistan.

During a special court martial Thursday, Carden pled guilty to several charges, including impeding an investigation, negligently discharging a firearm and striking another officer.

Carden also faces a fine and a rank reduction.

The court also recommended 10 months confinement.
