A U.S. district court declared Wednesday that Iran is partly responsible for the Sept. 11 terror attacks and liable to the victims' families.

In a largely symbolic ruling, a New York federal judge approved a $6 billion default judgment against Iran and other named defendants.

The lawsuit, Havlish v. bin Laden, was filed by family members of 47 Sept. 11 victims.

It alleges Iran, along with the Ayatollah Khomeini and Hezbollah, supported al-Qaida and the Taliban in the attacks.

Osama bin Laden, who was killed by U.S. Navy SEALs last year, was also named as a defendant.

However, Iran is unlikely to pay up.

Iran President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad denies his country was involved with al-Qaida or the Sept. 11 attacks.
