The NHL lockout is threatening to put a stop to hockey's debut at the Barclays Center.
The league announced Wednesday the cancellation of all preseason games through Sept. 30.
The Islanders and Devils are scheduled to play an exhibition game at the Brooklyn arena on Oct. 2.
While the game hasn't officially been canceled, it will have to be if the NHL and its players union can't agree on a new collective bargaining agreement before then.
Formal talks between the two sides have not resumed since the lockout went into effect over the weekend.
