Demonstrators in Chinatown demanded Saturday that the Army soldier convicted of assaulting Manhattan-born Private Danny Chen before his suicide should get a stronger sentence.

Chen, a Chinatown native, committed suicide in October just weeks after deployment to Afghanistan.

Sergeant Adam Holcomb was acquitted of negligent homicide charges in connection with his death, receiving 30 days in jail, a fine and a demotion in rank on lesser charges.

Those who attended the rally at Columbus Park in Chinatown called on the Army to dishonorably discharge Holcomb.

"There ought to be a loud message sent, saying does the leadership condone this type of behavior? If you do, then let the abuses stay in the army. If you don't, do something about it," said Wellington Chen of the Chinatown Partnership.

Seven other soldiers are still facing charges in Chen's death.
