The new "ZabKab" app is looking to make it easier for New Yorkers to hail a taxi.
The app allows iPhone and Android users to hail a taxi by sending a signal to cabbies who also have the app within about a five-block area.
The app uses GPS to let taxis know where passengers are.
Developers hope the app will reduce the amount of time riders spend looking for taxis and the amount of time drivers spend looking for customers.
It is free for passengers but taxi drivers will be charged a small monthly fee.
The company says so far about 1,000 of the city's more than 13,000 yellow cab drivers have downloaded the app.
