DJ Eric Holland has some "Sound Advice" on great concerts and music documentaries to check out around the city.

On Wednesday at Madison Square Park, this year's free Oval Lawn series wraps up with a woman whose been leaving a distinctive mark on R&B for over 40 years, Bettye LaVette. The Detroit-raised legend now living in New Jersey focused on putting her unique stamp on material by groups like The Who and The Animals on her last album, "Interpretations: The British Rock Soundtrack." LaVette will play the Highline Ballroom on September 28.

Another artist with Detroit roots and connections to New York, Marshall Crenshaw, will be appearing next Tuesday evening as part of the free Hudson Square Music & Wine Festival. The early evening series takes place every Tuesday this month behind City Winery.

A woman whose been called America’s best songwriter, Lucinda Williams, is resting Wednesday night after a pair of shows the last two nights at the Bowery Ballroom. She will continue Thursday with two more shows at the Music Hall Of Williamsburg.

British quartet Bloc Party is releasing the aptly titled "Four" album later this month and are bringing their high-energy act to town for three shows this week at T5. Frontman Kele Okereke says the new album is their most intense and confrontational yet.

In movie theaters this week is a documentary about Rodriguez, a musician from Detroit, that is generating more excitement about him in this country than his two albums were able to do in the early 1970s. "Searching For Sugar Man" tells Rodriguez's unlikely and mysterious story, as his albums were being hailed as masterpieces in countries like South Africa without the knowledge of the artist, who had stopped making music after he was dropped from his record company.

Rodriguez plays the Highline Ballroom on Friday, August 31.
