New Yorkers are paying attention to the shootings... and maybe even changing their own habits as a result. 48% of our viewers tonight said they've done something differently in response, including talking to their families about gun violence or checking in more with their kids. More of your thoughts posted below.

Family and friends are paying their final respects today at the funeral for Lloyd Morgan. The four-year-old boy was shot and killed by a stray bullet in a playground in the Bronx last week. His death, along with several other recent high-profile shootings, has galvanized New Yorkers who are promising to put an end to gun violence.

The funeral comes the same day Mayor Bloomberg is defending the City's practice of auctioning used bullet casings from the NYPD's training range. A gun store in Georgia was the highest bidder for 14 tons of spent ammunition that it refilled and sold to buyers who didn't need to provide identification. Bloomberg says the practice will continue. What do you say?

Is the shooting death of Lloyd Morgan a watershed moment for gun violence in New York City? Have you spoken to your family or changed your ways as a result of the recent shootings? Do you care what the City does with used ammunition from the police firing range?

Send your thoughts using the link above.

Two-faced Bloomberg is at it again. He wants ammunition sales restricted, but it's okay if the City sells thousands of casings used to make ammunition.

How could, how did anyone ever vote for this weasel?

Where do we go with this? This dictator had the nerve to take on Romney and Obama about the gun laws. He demanded that they do something and all the while he knew about what they do to dispose of the empty shells. Last night I questioned yet another private donor or a phantom organization that is giving funds to help with the after school programs. I was on my way out and I see Bloomberg as sarcastic as ever defending these two people that are involved with this whatever one would call it.

The woman would not do a question and answer with NY1 unless it was done on her terms.

Which they then refused the interview. Good for them.

The guy has sex with the patients. I guess that's what one would call therapy.

Where are we in the twi-light zone.

I have no idea just how you decipher this mess.

ONCE AGAIN THEY ARE JERKING OUR CHAINS. THIS MAYOR HAS TO GO. HOW MUCH LONGER DO WE PUT UP WITH THIS.

For the death of Lloyd Morgan to be a watershed moment something will have to actually change, and since another young child has been wounded by gunfire and a young man killed in a park by a single shot to head not much has changed at least in the present. As to whether I care about the city selling ammunition, does it matter what I or anyone else thinks? They have been doing it and clearly have zero intention of stopping, it's just more do as I say and ignore what I do from our so-called "leaders" in this city. Bloomberg being the schizophrenic, hypocrite that he is, this little inconsistency in policy has nothing to do with his grandstanding on the gun issue. Not unlike the police officer who was caught selling stolen guns I wonder if any of the 140 tons of ammunition they sold to that Georgia outfit ended up back on New York City streets, I wonder if any of those bullets have ended up in any of the victims that have been shot in this city?

The shooting themselves have only changed the amount of time I spend outdoors if I don't have to. Luckily I don't have a family, but I really am running out of reasons to stay in this city, it is a horrible place to live if you don't reside in Manhattan or the trendy areas of Brooklyn. The systematic gentrification and attempt to make the working class extinct is fueling much of this violence just like it does in most major cities and many Third World Countries. I've been in other parts of the country where guns are common place, and they don't have the level of violence and disregard for human life that has really infected this city. The gun issue has become a sexy sound-bite during an election year where most of the politicians don't have a soap box to stand on to lie from, but there is so much more going on that it's not even funny at this point. A gang of girls 13-20 years old stab a 60-something year old man on a train, there are serial robberies going on, let's not forget the sexual assault problems that sprung up a few months ago, and just the other day a tourist was attacked with a hammer. The guns aren't the disease at this point, they are just a violent and noticeable symptom.

LET'S GO TO PLAN B:

CREATE A DATABASE FOR WEAPON SERIAL NUMBERS SUPPLIED BY WEAPON MANUFACTURERS WHO ARE/SHOULD BE OBLIGATED TO PROVIDING THIS INFORMATION TO LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES.

COMPARE MASTER DATA OF WEAPONS v WEAPONS THAT HAVE BEEN CONFISCATED BY LAW AGENCIES. AS WELL AS, ANY OVER-THE-TOP PURCHASE OF AMMUNITION FOR WEAPONS.

SORT DATA BY AREA, AND CREATE THE TARGET AREA FOR SOME SERIOUS DUE DILIGENCE.

NEXT, ONCE AREAS ARE IDENTIFIED, THEN TAKE THE TIME TO BRING HOME THE TROOPERS AND HAVE THEM POLICE THESE DESIGNATED AREAS. OUR TROOPERS ARE BATTLE READY, AND WE NEED TO USE THIS RESOURCE, WHO WILL WORK IN TARGETED AREAS AND USE THEIR EXPERIENCE TO DISARM AN AREA, HOME, PERSON, JUST THROW THE PEOPLE TO THE TROOPERS AND LET THIS BE A LIFE CHANGING EVENT. OK, LETS DO THE MATH: 168,000 TROOPERS DIVIDED BY 50 STATES EQUALS OVER 3,300 ARMY CORP OF ENGINEERS /STATE. IF THERE ARE OVERAGES AND SUCH, THESE NUMBERS CAN BE ADJUSTED TO FIT THE STATES OBLIGATED AREAS. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!

IN REGARD TO PUBLIC HOUSING, LETS BE VERY CLEAR ON THE OPTIONS. FORGET WHATEVER YOU COULD HAVE DONE ABOUT HAVING THE TIGER, AS A ROOMMATE? WHY COULD WE NOT KNOW AFTER THE TIGER BECAME A TENANT, THERE WOULD BE ISSUES RELATING TO THIS FORM OF PET CONTROL.

THE MAYOR WANTS PEOPLE TO EXPOSE WHERE THE WEAPONS MAY BE STORED. OK, SINCE THIS IS THE MAYOR'S BABY, LET HIM IMPRESS ME WITH OFFERING $5,000 FOR EACH WEAPON THAT HAS BEEN TAKEN OUT OF THEIR AREA(s). NOW FOR THE MAYOR TO DECIDE WHETHER OR NOT TO CREATE THIS NON-PROFIT AGENCY IS NOT AN OPTION. IF THIS IS SUCCESSFUL, THIS WILL BE A WIN-WIN SITUATION FOR THE MAYOR, WHO GETS TO TAKE THE AGENCY AND 100% TAX DEDUCTION FOR HIS LINE ITEM DONATION.

ABOUT THE FAMILY; IF THERE IS A MISCREANT WHO HAS TO BRING DOWN THE FAMILY BECAUSE THEIR WEAPONS AGREEMENT AND PAYMENT SHARE THIS INFORMATION, SO IS IT!!! THE ALTERNATIVE IS THAT THE PARENTS OF THESE GENETIC SPOLIERS CAN BE CHARGED AS AN ACCESSORY TO THE CRIME. AGAIN, NO EXCEPTIONS. I AM A FORMER TENANT IN PUBLIC HOUSING, AND THE MOST EXCITING THING, WAS FOR THE SUPERS TO COMPETE ON WHO KEPT THE CLEANEST BUILDING. HOWEVER, THAT DATES BACK TO 1964 AND THE NYPD COP ON A BLOCK WAS WELL KNOWN TO THE RESIDENTS.

Bloomberg is all about MONEY< MONEY.......This same mindset is destroying the character of The Village. The Rudin/St. Vincent construction project and The NYU monster construction takeover of its surrounding community, totally disregarding what a VILLAGE is ( low density and low rise) by definition. Money gained on the destruction of living one way or another what this administrations hidden agenda is all about.

The administration does NOT work for us, by helping to run and maintain a safe united and thriving environment to live, work, play, get educated and visit. They work toward the theory of economics and the supposed rewards we wont benefit from or even need.
Shameful. What ever happened to the sense of community being united and being able to protect and be protected? Our government it trying to tell us what we like and what we need versus our preservation.

SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ASAP !!! LET'S FACE IT, WE WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO GET GUNS OFF THE STREET BUT TOUGHER GUNS LAWS SHOULD BE IMPLEMENTED, NEW YORK IS TURNING INTO THE WILD, WILD WEST.

Here's the thing...This is the MOST anyone has ever reported on the shootings in Black Communities. This is NOT new and has been going on for years. I am starting to believe that this is a ploy for Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Kelly to continue to promote their unjustified stop and frisking tactics. I ask again…Where are these STOP AND FRISKING happening, B/C I know it CAN’T be in the gun ridden gang infested communities, b/c the shootings and deaths keeps happening…. OR are they stopping African Americans b/c they are deemed to MOST likely commit any crimes b/c of stereotypes, IF they are near the big business or white communities?

Where are the parents of these "kids" using guns? Where are their fathers? The burden of teaching self-respect and obedience should not be placed on the NYPD and on the city in general. It's a family's responsibility.

The very people who are shooting up, those are the very people who sometime ago were against the "Stop and Frisk" by the police. From my point of view, the police MUST DO THEIR JOB.

My heart goes out to the family that has lost this innocent child to this senseless shooting. As well as the family who now have a 17 yr old in jail facing murder charges! Its unfortunate that this has happened and keeps on happening! I Iive in the area where that young 19yr old was gunned down almost a month ago in Chelsea, and it must be said that we must come together in our communities to make sure our loved ones are protected and safe! And this movement must cross race and economic barriers! It starts from home and in schools! It takes a village to raise a child! Stop cutting government funded programs that were developed to keep our children off the streets! Local businesses should band together to give to local community centers! Stricter gun control laws for people caught in gun trafficking! State laws should be in unison when it comes to bearing arms! Guns should not be sold anywhere!

My condolences to Lloyd morgan jr R.i.p. Solution: we should stop promoting war in the world this country was built on war and murder and we even have a song about taking land and killing native tribes dont be hypacrites we should promote mercy, compassion and peace

here is an idea make bullets _2,000 bucks each. Make guns _200,000 each gun violence would change.

HOW ARE BLACK YOUTH SUPPOSED TO LEARN HOW TO BE PRODUCTIVE MEMBERS OF SOCIETY, AND BE SERIOUS ABOUT SCHOOL AND PLANNING FOR A SUCCESSFUL FUTURE, WHEN THERE IS NO FATHER IN THEIR HOUSEHOLD, TO BE A ROLE MODEL, TO DISCIPLINE THEM, AND TO GUIDE THEM? DAD IS ABSENT OR DEADBEAT, AND OFTEN MOM HAS TO LEAVE THE CHILDREN ALONE OR WITH OTHERS TO GO TO WORK, OR DOESN'T WORK AND IS SLEEPING AROUND MAKING MORE BABIES AND GETTING MORE GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE.

THE YOUTH ARE LEFT TO GO WHEREVER THE WIND BLOWS THEM, AND GUNS MAKE THEM FEEL MACHO, BIG OR IMPORTANT. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY NOT WORKING, AND IS HURTING EVERYONE IN THE BLACK COMMUNITY.

THE GOVERNMENT NEEDS TO STOP REWARDING SINGLE MOTHERS WHO ARE OUT OF WEDLOCK, AND THEN SEE HOW FAST THEY STOP HAVING BABIES AT RANDOM. THAT IS STEP ONE. THE REST WILL FOLLOW.

WHAT IS THIS ABOUT?? The NYPD selling their bullet casings at an auction to make money? Who are the individuals buying these casings -- what are their backgrounds? What gun dealers -- what states are we talking about? States down south with little or no gun laws? Oh Georgia -- so much better. What is to stop someone who is knowledgeable about casings re-using them with more bullets? This is the policy that Mayor Bloomberg is defending? How can he defend this policy after all of his ongoing hype & rhetoric along with his outrage at President Obama and Mitt Romney for not coming out more strongly for gun control and making it a part of their campaign. This is a disgrace.

Other police departments in New York State keep their casings and they re-load them with new bullets or they scrap them. They do not sell them at auctions! Once again this is all about money and if this is not about Mayor Bloomberg talking out of two sides of his mouth then I don't know what is.

No way can a parent look through their child's book bag. Half these parents can't put food on the table

It's pretty clear to me that with so many shootings in the the bronx, guns are flowing in like water. Gun control needs to be a primary concern. Stronger laws does not stop thugs without any conscious from committing any crimes. These young criminals have big egos who put their priorities first; to commit crimes and hurt others. Instead of stopping and frisking individuals on foot why not check people in vehicles. I'm almost certain it's not blacks or latinos who brings them into the city; they just buy them.

Rob

I just wanted to say, lets see how fast Politicians move to ban weapons when their own kids and grand children are killed or hurt.. i bet it would be pretty quick.

I humbly propose that the stop and search procedure be respectfully be renamed "The Lloyd Morgan Law", to entail a respectful search of anyone that may incite an obvious degree of interest to, officials as well as the community that they take the oath to serve and protect.

I keep hearing about violating a persons fourth amendment, civil, and human rights being violated ( stop & frisk) as the solution to this dilemma of gun violence...Nothing else that's all I hear, by the way mr mayor how long before we here about the next cop selling guns ( sarcasm ).

Francisco

The youth growing up should be kept away from guns an the people that poses them. We cant blame music. We cant blame movies. We have to blame the community an the leaders like mayor, govenor, the democrats an republicans working in the district. Guns are used for protection. So we ask our selves why we have them illegally? Alot can come to mind, drugs in the street is the number 1. Gangs is the second. .....

It's unfathomable that illegal guns run rampant in this country after so many senseless acts of violence particularly by mentally ill individuals. How many more innocent people have to get hurt because our politicians are spineless in standing up to to the NRA? The right to bear arms does not protect us, but hurts us. It has no relevance in today's society and is an excuse for the the unbalanced to inflict harm.

Melanie

The truth is, people who live in states with with lax gun laws exploit states with tough gun laws like New York. Most guns that are used in shootings and crimes in the inner city, were bought legally in these states, then resold illegally. If straw sales and more importantly, gun show sales, were eliminated and enforced it would have immediate impact.

As a father, I wish the death of this child would cause the community, the police department, city hall, the media to say, enough! The reality is, when you have city hall, the nypd, and community leaders more worried about who's fault it is, and not working together for a solution, it won't mean a thing. The 24hr news cycle will push this story off the front page.
