The court martial of one of the soldiers charged in the hazing of Private Danny Chen continued Saturday with one of his commanding officers taking the stand.
Company Commander Captain Sean Allred testified that Chen was set to be transferred to another unit when the private took his own life last October.
Allred said he did not witness any of the abuse Chen allegedly suffered at the hands of fellow soldiers.
However, he said he did receive reports that Chen could not meet the physical demands of combat and that the Manhattan native fell asleep while on guard duty.
Staff Sergeant Adam Holcomb is charged with negligent homicide, assault and reckless endangerment in the alleged racially-charged hazing that led to Chen's suicide.
Seven other soldiers are also facing charges.
While on the stand, Captain Allred admitted Chen only received basic training before being deployed to Afghanistan, saying he could have used more.
