Police said Tuesday that one man shot his girlfriend and her grandson before taking his own life in a Brooklyn apartment. NY1's Michael Herzenberg filed the following report.

Neighbors are just coming to terms with what happened.

Police believe 44-year-old David Sherrod shot his girlfriend, 51-year-old Alma Cox, in the head. He also apparently shot her 7-year-old grandson Jaquan in the head before killing himself.

Neighbors say Alma was nice but she and David, who also lived in the apartment, would fight a lot. They didn't know it was physical until this.

"There was a block party on Saturday," said one resident. "Music was loud, neighbors were out, cooking, eating. It had to happen between 12 and 8 o'clock Saturday."

The man who lives above the apartment said he came home Monday night and called police after he smelt something foul.

"I was like, 'Yo, something's dead in that apartment,'" he said. "We called police. When they went in, they found two bodies first. Then they went into the house deeper and they found the third body."

7-year-old Jaquan was from Poughkeepsie. He was apparently visiting his grandmother. Police are still investigating, trying to figure out exactly when this happened and exactly what happened.
