The incumbent representative went into the debate with some heavy backup in a form of an endorsement from Governor Andrew Cuomo.

However, things got heated when Espaillat brought up Rangel's censure on the floor of the house.

"We lost over 60 seats across the country and we lost the majority," Espaillat said. "That was a real concern back then and it's a real concern now."

"He wants to move forward and talk about where he wants to go," Rangel said. "I got 83 percent of the people's vote in our district after the allegations. And you were one of my biggest supporters."

Upper Manhattan Democrats will head to the polls on Tuesday to choose the nominee.
