The State Senate has confirmed the appointment of former Governor David Paterson as a member of the MTA board.
Paterson replaces Nancy Shevell, who resigned shortly after marrying Paul McCartney.
The former governor, who is a Manhattan native, said he understands how vital transportation is to the health of the region.
Transit supporters have said they felt the governor will be an effective advocate for the system, in particular for disabled riders.
Paterson currently hosts a daily talk show on WOR radio.
