An attorney for Kardin Ulysse said school employees were present at Junior High School 78 on June 5 when two students assaulted the 14-year-old.

According to a report by the Department of Education, the students called Ulysse anti-gay slurs before the attack.

The boy said he lost sight in one eye.

"It's like very, very hard," said Pierre Ulysse, Kardin's father. "We can't really function. Kardin's been very, very scared. He's been having nightmares and stuff. He can't sleep at night. He always asking me 'Daddy, if I could ever see again in that eye.'"

Pierre said his son was a victim of bullying in the past.

Police say two students were arrested and charged with reckless endangerment and assault.

The city law department says family court attorneys are looking into the matter.

The DOE said the students involved also face disciplinary action.
