Brewers are raising a mug in celebration after Albany agreed Thursday to restore a tax break for small craft beer makers.
Under the deal, breweries would get 14 cents back for every gallon they brew, up to a half a million gallons. Small breweries would be exempt from a state liquor authority fee and breweries would be allowed to set up retail and restaurants on their farms.
Brewers said losing the exemption would have cost them millions of dollars and may have forced them to raise the price of beer.
The deal is expected to be voted on before the end of the legislative session next week.
The state has more then 90 breweries.
