NY1 reporter Roger Clark led an event Wednesday night honoring humanitarians and raising money for the Red Cross.
Hundreds gathered at the annual New York Red Cross Ball at the Plaza Hotel to support the organization's Greater New York Region.
Attendees got a personal story from Clark about how the Red Cross helped him out on the night of the 2003 Northeast blackout.
"So I'm stuck at Penn Station. Hundreds of other sweaty commuters. And then, thank God the Red Cross truck shows up, and they fed me granola bars and gave me water. I was so happy. You don't even understand how hungry I was at that point," Clark said.
The Greater New York Region of the Red Cross covers the city, Long Island, the Lower Hudson Valley and Greenwich, Connecticut.
