NY1 VIDEO: Inside City Hall’s Errol Louis spoke with Emmy Award-winning journalist Barbara Nevins Taylor, this semester's Jack Newfield Visiting Professor of Journalism at Hunter College, and three of her students, Adelyn Maldonado, Lea Dyrup Jensen and Ryan Daniels.

In response to Adelyn’s report (available at www.citylimits.org), the Administration for Children’s Services says, “The Administration for Children’s Services is working with Green Chimneys to improve services for young people in their care, including strengthening the programming available to them, and ensuring that staff is properly trained and supervised to provide a supportive and safe environment for young people. We are holding Green Chimneys accountable to achieving these improvements and the agency is cooperating toward this end.”

In response to Ryan and Lea’s story (available on YouTube), the Department of Homeless Services says, “DHS works hard to ensure that homeless families have a safe and secure place to live until they are able to return to the community. There is no question that children entering the shelter system are experiencing hardship and may have difficulty adjusting to a new environment. With the help of great care-givers, trained shelter staff and other positive adults, many kids in shelter are able to overcome tremendous challenges, excel in school and develop their talents, as evidenced by this extraordinary video.”
