A dangerous and electrifying situation that damaged a Con Ed meter box led a Queens family to turn to NY1 For You for help. NY1's Susan Jhun filed the following NY1 For Your report.

A leaning electric pole in Little Neck, Queens looms large over homeowner Yoon Suk Kang, who has seen the pole fall many times.

"The Verizon cable wire was a lot lower than average. The garbage pickup truck tried to get in to pick up the garbage and they hit the line and the electric pole fell down," says Kang.

It happened not once or twice, but three times.

"I can't even sleep at night. Whenever I hear the garbage pickup truck engine noise I have to wake up, but they usually come 3 a.m., 4 a.m.," says Kang.

That means little sleep for the tired homeowner, who has been pleading with Verizon and Consolidated Edison to not only fix the pole but to also get to the root of the problem and raise the wires so large trucks will not hit them.

"Con Edison and Verizon, they came they reinstalled a new pole here and a second one and they promised me [it would] never happen again," says Kang.

But sure enough, last week it did happen again.

The force of the fall was so strong the cables brought down Kang's meter box and now Con Ed is saying he is responsible for fixing it.

"It's my responsibility to fix and then pay," says Kang.

The job is estimated to cost $4,000 and Kang says he has no confidence it won't be ripped out again.

After Kang called NY1, the station contacted Con Ed and a spokesman said the agency was in the process of dealing with the situation and will straighten out the pole and support it.

NY1 then called Verizon and a spokesman said the company is in the process of removing their cables from that pole and will place them somewhere else.

It is good news for the Kang family, which hopes this means the end to a weighty situation.
