Some disabled East Harlem residents are finally able to leave their apartments after the broken elevator in their apartment was fixed. NY1's Susan Jhun filed this follow-up NY1 For You report.

The elevator in an East Harlem co-op building is out again, but this time for repairs. It is a welcome sight for residents.

"They are working on it every day," says co-op owner Lionel Washington.

The elevator sat broken and untouched for almost a month. Last week, NY1 For You reported on how Washington, a disabled tenant, had been homebound as a result.

"I haven't been able to attend the doctors. I haven't been able to do anything that's beneficial for me," says Washington.

After residents contacted NY1, the station called the Department of Buildings and the agency inspected the elevator and issued a violation to the building owner for neglecting to fix it.

NY1 then called management for the building and workers were sent to start fixing the elevator the very next day.

"Things are looking better now," says Washington.

NY1 has learned from Washington that the elevator is back up and running, which is a huge "lift" for the tenants.
