Andy Pettitte received a warm welcome Sunday afternoon when he returned to the mound at Yankee Stadium for the first time since October 2010, but the Seattle Mariners defeated the Bronx Bombers 6-2.

The 39-year-old left-handed pitcher threw until the seventh inning, but his giving up four runs on seven hits caused Seattle to gain the lead.

Mariners right-hander Kevin Millwood only gave up three hits in seven innings.

A Yankees eighth-inning comeback attempt fell short, and Seattle tacked on two more home runs in the final inning to take the win.

In three minor league starts this year, Pettitte was 0-2 with a 3.71 earned run average.

Along with Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada and Mariano Rivera, Pettitte was a member of five New York Yankees championship teams dating back to 1996.
