As fuel prices across the country continue to rise, two state lawmakers want consumers to be protected from price spikes at the gas pump.

State Senator Eric Adams and State Assemblyman David Weprin introduced a bill this week that would require all gas stations to post signs with contact information for the State Consumer Protection Board.

That way, if a consumer suspects price gouging they know who to call immediately.

"Gas prices have fluctuated so quickly that a consumer cannot tell what the actual market price for gas should be," said Weprin.

"Who is stopping gas stations when they're increasing gas prices in a rapid manner? Our sign would insure that we put a break on those who are cheating consumers," said Adams.

Currently, a gallon of regular gas in the city will cost drivers $4.05 on average.

That's up from $3.86 just a month ago.
