The city says Fashion Week generates about $865 million in economic activity, and now viewers can look like at least one of those millions with the Badgley Mischka and Dennis Basso collections. NY1's Arts reporter Stephanie Simon filed the following report.
It is a "heavy metal" show at Badgley Mischka's Lincoln Center runway. The design duo is turning up the volume for fall 2012 with "Metallic-a."
"Our big accent is all of our dirty metallics. A lot of dirty gold and pewters and rich brasses," says designer Mark Badgley.
"We glazed [it] a little bit, made it a little bit metallic," says says designer James Mischka.
The front-row fashionistas are fans of it all.
"I love the colors, the beading was just incredible," says actor Kate Mara.
Fashion commentators and entertainers Kelly Osbourne and Joan Rivers agree.
"So glamorous, so New York, so urban," says Rivers.
"I like being girly, but I also like, I'm a tomboy, so I like to mix the dark colors but with a bit of, you know, sparkle in it," says Osbourne.
You don't have to worry about the fashion police here, because when you wear Badgley Mischka, you're "gold."
Meanwhile, designer Dennis Basso puts on a show where, like the designer himself, everything is warm and fuzzy.
Basso's looks for fall 2012 are inspired by the glamour of rail travel. His clothes, and personality, are like a locomotive.
"To come to Dennis Basso, it's about really shopping for glamour, for shopping for things that you're going to add to your wardrobe, and they're about feeling good pieces," says Basso.
Basso star clientele rave about the pieces and the person.
"There's everything to love about Dennis. First of all Dennis himself, he's so warm and so charming and clearly so talented. I love his designs," says actor Susan Lucci.
"I've known Dennis since I was literally in the crib, since I was an infant, and he's an amazing and beautiful person and obviously a great talent," says entrepreneur Ivanka Trump.
So climb onboard with Dennis Basso and friends for a journey to the center of the fashion universe.
