”Shatner’s World: We Just Live in It” brings the “Star Trek” star to Broadway in an endearing one-man show. Time Out New York contributing critic David Cote filed the following review.

For my video review of William Shatner’s one-man Broadway show, “Shatner’s World: We Just Live in It,” I promise not to do a cheesy impression. You know: the staccato pauses. With. Dramatic. Emphasis!

Truth is, that’s just the actor’s TV voice. Shatner shows a few other sides in this warm and off-the-cuff self-portrait about life in space and beyond. Unfortunately, the production could not supply us video of the show by our taping time, so you’ll just have to go on fond memories of Captain Kirk in action as well as some photographs.

Shatner and his director, Scott Faris, aren’t exploring any formal frontiers in this minimalist setup. There are a couple of chairs, a few unused props and a large planet-shaped screen upon which the crew projects photos and videos from Shatner’s career on stage and famously in the “Star Trek” series and movies. In between these video interludes, Shatner pilots a rolling office chair, regaling us with tales of his boyhood in Montreal, early thespian experiences with the Stratford Shakespeare Festival and how “Star Trek” led to a long-standing friendship with NASA.

What you may not know about this jolly, self-deprecating showbiz veteran is how much he loves breeding racehorses. Trekkies beware: You will hear more about inseminating American Saddlebreds than what to do when caught between a Klingon Bird of Prey and a Romulan cruiser.

Despite the lack of dish about “Star Trek,” you can bet that Trekkies will flock to the show like Tribbles on a starship bridge. Still, Shatner is genteel, funny and an amusing storyteller; there’s even a little something for the non-Trekkie.
