A Brooklyn school aide was arrested Tuesday and arraigned on charges of producing child pornography, and investigators say the videos were apparently made in a classroom. NY1’s Michael Herzenberg filed the following report.
Parents picked up their kids from Weeksville Elementary School angry, upset and concerned Tuesday after receiving a note from the school telling them about the arrest of Taleek Brooks.
Federal Prosecutors say Brooks made videos in a classroom of him touching a boy's private parts and spanking a naked boy.
“I'm just totally surprised,” said one parent.
“It's abhorrent,” said a second.
“I'm very disgusted,” said a third.
It's unclear if the videos were made at PS 243, where he’s worked as a teacher's aide since 1995.
“I have two boys and one girl that go there, and they said he never done anything to them,” said one parent.
Officials at the Department of Education say the Federal Bureau of Investigation is still looking into whether the alleged victims are from any city public schools.
Officials at the United State attorney's office say Brooks made the videos sometime after 2008 and admitted to sharing and collecting child porn for seven years.
Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott said in a statement, "As chancellor, and as a father, I am horrified and disgusted at the charges we learned of today from the FBI. Upon learning of this arrest, I immediately called the principal and went to the school to offer my support. Our paramount concern is for the safety of our students, and we are cooperating fully with the federal authorities as they continue their investigation."
Brooks was initially arrested last month after authorities found child porn on his home computer. The school system suspended him without pay.
The new charges stem from homemade content that the FBI found on his computer.
If convicted, Brooks may face up to 25 years in prison.
