Cardinal-Designate Timothy Dolan launched a new initiative to fight hunger as he delivered Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Sunday.

During his homily in Midtown Manhattan, the archbishop announced that New Yorkers can donate nonperishable packaged goods at churches and schools throughout the entire Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York as part of the Feeding Our Neighbors program.

After the Mass, Dolan kicked off the campaign with a donation at the Rusty Staub Mobile Food Pantry.

"Thousands of our people will bring food and resources to replenish our strained food pantries, our soup kitchens and our shelters. So it is particularly good we would gather for holy Mass, call to mind our sins and ask the Lord's mercy," said Dolan.

"In this period of time when we've had so much going on. It's been negative and so many people are out of work," said former New York Mets player Rusty Staub, the namesake of the pantry. "It was 20 percent the first year and 10 percent two years in a row, that our lines have gotten longer, and we still had to raise the money."
