Family and friends took to the streets of Lower Manhattan Thursday to honor a soldier who died in Afghanistan.
Hundreds of supporters marched from the Army's recruiting center in TriBeCa to Chinatown to remember Private Danny Chen, who passed away in October.
An Army investigation is looking into allegations that he was mistreated by supervisors.
Chen sent his cousin a letter while he was in basic training, saying he was bullied for being Chinese.
"They ask if I'm from China a few times a day. They also call out my name, Chen, in a goat-like voice sometimes for no reason. No idea how it started, but it's just best to ignore it,” said Banny Chen, the soldier’s cousin.
"We deserve to be treated fairly and equally," said City Councilwoman Margaret Chin.
Community leaders say they discussed potential anti-bullying polices during a recent meeting at the Pentagon.
