Lawmakers are pushing a bill in Washington that would help keep the memorial and museum up and running for many years to come.

Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand introduced a measure that would grant up to $20 million per year to the World Trade Center Foundation.

The funds would need to be equally matched by non-federal resources.

The bill requires the transfer of the title of the site to the National Parks Service, which would require the approval of Governors Andrew Cuomo and Chris Christie.

The senators argue the funding would not only support the long-term viability of the site, but would also lower the cost of admission to the museum, which is expected to open next year.
