NY1 FOLLOW-UP: For many businesses, the economic damage inflicted by 9/11 was too much to overcome. According to data compiled by the Downtown Alliance, Lower Manhattan suffered a loss of 754 business in the first two years after the attacks. However, the area has grown steadily in the years since and is now home to 130 more companies than were there on September 11, 2001.
