The initial moments of the 9/11 terror attacks can be heard on newly-released recordings of air traffic controllers on the morning of September 11, 2001.

In one recording, an air traffic controller can be heard requesting military assistance following the initial hijacking. On another recording, the controllers can be heard reacting when one of the planes strikes the World Trade Center.

The recordings, part of the 9/11 Commission material stored in the National Archives, have been organized for public release by students of the Rutgers University School of Law, whose dean is a former 9/11 Commission senior counsel.

The audio is part of a complete chronology of the 9/11 attacks published by the Rutgers Law Review.
