Mayor Bloomberg touts new technology, following a report about widespread ticket-fixing by members of the NYPD.
Published reports say hundreds of officers as well as some union officials could be facing disciplinary action after they gave favorable treatment to their friends and family.
Bloomberg said a new electronic system is in place to prevent the practice.
"If it is a problem, and I'll leave that to the investigation, it was a problem in the past and certainly is very unlikely to be a problem today," Bloomberg said.
New Yorkers say they are furious, and that nepotism has no place in such an important city agency.
Police have remained tight-lipped when asked for comment on the accusations, citing the investigation.
