The New York City Police Department has released hundreds of photos taken by a convicted serial killer in the hopes that they may help solve some cold cases.

Rodney Alcala is a photographer who sits on death row in California for the murders of four women and a 12-year-old girl, but police believe he may be responsible for other murders.

They have released photos he took of 226 women – some of which may have been taken when Alcala lived in the city in the 1970s.

Investigators say Alcala is linked to the 1971 murder of a TWA stewardess in Manhattan.
