Police are investigating after a burned rainbow flag was discovered Wednesday morning outside the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Center in Manhattan's Greenwich Village.
The flag was hanging off a poster display case in front of the building.
Employees at the center say they have received threatening phone calls and letters in the past but nothing like this has happened before.
The center has been an institution in Greenwich Village for nearly 30 years.
The New York City Police Department Hate Crimes task force is investigating.
