A federal judge revoked bail Tuesday for former New York City Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik, who is awaiting trial on corruption charges.

He has been sent to jail.

The judge said during a three-hour pre-trial conference that he was revoking the $500,000 bail because Kerik disclosed private information about the trial to an attorney, who then leaked the information to the Washington Post. The information was not published.

A judge had warned Kerik last month that he could face jail time for such behavior. The judge said Kerik was being jailed to make sure he was unable to influence witnesses or prospective jurors.

Kerik is accused of accepting apartment renovations from a construction company in exchange for recommending them for city contracts. He has pleaded not guilty to those charges, among others.

His trial is expected to begin Monday.
