A new exhibit at the Museum of the Fashion Institute of Technology is tracing two centuries of politics, cultural shifts, and social movements through fashion trends.
Curators say last year's presidential election spurred them to go back through their archives and illustrate how fashion has reflected the defining social movements of the last 200 years.
"When we approached the topic, of course we were very inspired a lot by what was going on with the campaigns of the past year," said Assistant Curator Jennifer Farley. "But when we approached the topic, we discovered how broad the range is, how long the history is, and how many wonderful pieces we have in the collection here at FIT to tell this story."
The exhibit opens today and runs through November 7th.
