Nannies, housekeepers and other domestic workers held a rally Tuesday in Washington Square Park.

They're calling on the State Senate to pass the Domestic Workers Bill of Rights.

The State Assembly already passed the measure, which creates basic labor standards, such as overtime pay, one day off per week, ability to collectively bargain, and paid sick days.

"The work that we do is work. And that we deserve insurance pay and different things they get at their own jobs. We're not asking for much more than what they already get," said Monica Diaz of the Unity House Cleaners Cooperative.

"If you're a construction worker, if you're building bridges, your work is protected. But if you're building families, your work is not protected," said Columbia University Professor Jennifer Hirsch.

Governor David Paterson has said he would sign the bill into law.
