Donald Trump did better on Staten Island than in any other county in the New York primary last April. Some of those Trump voters cheered his inauguration Friday at a watch party in the borough. NY1's Roger Clark filed the following report.

The champagne was flowing, and spirits were high, as supporters of Donald Trump celebrated what they call an exciting new day for the country.

"This is our time. A real New Yorker. A born, bred New Yorker. With fire in his belly. A lion's roar. It's all positive. It's wonderful," said Christina Salcido.

About 30 people gathered at the Belvedere Club to watch Trump's inauguration in the only borough where he won more votes than Hillary Clinton.

The party was thrown by Attorney Richard Luthmann for fellow Trump supporters who couldn't make it to the swearing-in in person.

"We're back as a country, I feel. I think that Trump is going to bring us back to the place where we need to be as a respected country in the world on all fronts," Luthmann said.

On a day when many others in the heavily Democratic city were in anything but a celebratory mood, some even refusing to watch the inauguration, these folks said to give their guy a chance.

"This man is a brilliant man that can make all the hype that they put about him," said Elliot Borack, a Trump supporter. "Does anyone really think he became a successful businessman because he's a racist and a hated person?"

"Donald Trump is a pragmatic person. I'm sure he will do the right things," said Dr. Prasad Gudavalli, a Trump supporter.

Everyone in this room was obviously thrilled that Trump is now the president. But they still had some advice for him as he heads into the White House.

"He should keep his negative feelings to himself, not put it on the Twitter. Because any word that he says can never be taken back," said one Trump supporter.

"I think sometimes, he wants to put his point across, so he keeps repeating a lot of things that maybe the public doesn't like. But as long as he comes through with his promises, I think the public will be very happy about this," said Dr. Lina Merlino, a Trump supporter.

But on this day, Donald Trump could say no wrong, at least in this room on Staten Island.
